Middle School Program 

The IB Middle Years Program (MYP) course names are different from traditional names. All MS students will take 4 core classes and 2 language acquisition classes (taught exclusively in the L2).

MS Core

Language and Literature (traditionally ELA)

Math or Accelerated (AC) Math

  • AC Math placement is dependent on gifted status and, if room is available, teacher recommendation

Science (6th Grade: Earth Science, 7th Grade: Life Science, 8th Grade: Physical Science)

Individuals and Societies (traditionally Social Studies)​

MS Immersion (33% of each student's academic instructional day)

1 Language Acquisition (LA Immersion) course

1 Language Acquisition dual-language immersion (LA DLI) course

Middle School DLI Courses

  • DLI History and Culture - 6th grade

  • DLI Media Literacy - 7th grade

  • DLI Literature - 8th grade

All MS students participate daily in Connections Rotation (a survey course which will include the following):

  • PHE (Physical and Health Education)

  • Arts (visual or performing)

  • Design (integrated computer science)​

Students Needing Additional Academic Support

ICSAtlanta offers academic support classes in Reading and Math for identified students. If needed, students may be removed from their LA DLI course to accommodate the additional support class.
