Why Your Support is Important - Letter to Parents
Dear ICSAtlanta Parents,
We are off to a great start for the 2019-20 school year. This year, ICSAtlanta added our final grade to become a K-8 school, and we are officially now an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School!
We owe our accomplishments to our strong community of educators, staff, and parents, and we could not be where we are today without you. Your ongoing support is very important as we continue to build upon the firm foundation we've established. As a public, state-commissioned charter school, we have the flexibility to offer innovative educational opportunities for our students and open enrollment to any child in Georgia, regardless of where they live. However, it also means that we receive much less funding than traditional public schools. ICSAtlanta is a public school but does not receive local funds (like property taxes or SPLOST dollars). ICSAtlanta also does not receive funds for facilities like traditional public schools who receive $1,100 per pupil every year for this purpose. In short, ICSAtlanta must do more with less. Click here for information about funding.
You can make a difference! To help address this public school funding gap, ICSAtlanta raises funds throughout the school year. These funds are used to support the school's budget and everything ICSAtlanta needs to operate. Many of the "booster-thons," candy and wrapping sales, crowdfunding sites, and similar programs other schools use take up to 50% or more of funds collected. So, ICSAtlanta instead focuses on fun activities that bring the most money to our school. Here is what you can expect this year for fundraising:
Fall Giving Campaign (October and November): During the Fall Giving Campaign, we ask families to give as you are able to support our school through one-time donations or monthly donations throughout the school year. Our goal is 100% participation by all families to raise $100,000. This is an average of about $125 per student. We will have giving incentives and awards for homeroom classes that reach 100% participation.
Race Weekend (March 28-29): ICSAtlanta will hold our fourth annual Run the World with ICSAtlanta 5K & Fun Run on Sunday, March 29! Runners will have the ability to raise funds on their own fundraising pages, and we will have prizes. On the night before, we will hold our annual Pasta Dinner and Silent Auction to get everyone excited for the big race, including baskets for bid that are put together by each language track. This is a great opportunity for parent-owned businesses to show their support by becoming a race sponsor or silent auction donor.
Cultural Events: Each language track holds a cultural event open to the community during the school year featuring food, performances, and fun. All of the funds raised at these events directly benefit the language track hosting them. Our English teachers lead the Holiday Chorus and Market Night to raise funds for English classes.
Chick-fil-A Biscuit Fridays: One Friday a month, our "biscuit crew" sells Chick-fil-A biscuits to students.
Amazon Smile: You can always support ICSAtlanta while you shop on Amazon.com! Go to smile.amazon.comwhen you are ready to shop, and ensure that your selected charity is the International Charter School of Atlanta.
PTO Events and Initiatives: The ICSAtlanta PTO also holds "spirit nights" and other fundraising activities to support PTO initiatives. Funds raised through PTO activities are used for specific projects at ICSAtlanta that the PTO membership decides to support. Last year's projects included a fence for the Lower Campus outdoor classroom and freezers for both campuses, as well as teacher appreciation activities.
We need volunteers to help make our fundraising activities a success! From helping with Fall Giving to planning the race and silent auction, there are many ways to support ICSAtlanta's fundraising. Thank you for your generosity and support of ICSAtlanta! Together, we are building Georgia's premier school for a public international education.
